Millicent Kent was the first teacher who supervised the newly established elementary school “Piney Woods School,” which began operation in 1950 on the premises of Anatolia College and has been in continuous operation ever since. Its goal was to meet the educational needs of the children of American and European government representatives and delegations in Thessaloniki, and it soon evolved into a pillar of local and global significance for the city. It is one of the first and few schools supported by the US Department of State worldwide. Throughout its history, every US Consul General in Thessaloniki has served on Pinewood’s Board of Directors. Every student who has passed through its doors has learned to think deeply, dream of the future, work hard, and promote equal opportunities – the ethos that defines the American dream.
