Politician
On his way to Greece, President White had the opportunity to meet Eleftherios Venizelos in Paris. Although out of government at the time, Venizelos remained the country’s prominent political figure. In his memoirs, White recounts that Venizelos was extremely encouraging about the relocation of Anatolia to Greece and recommended Thessaloniki as the most appropriate option for starting anew. Venizelos was also the one who assured White that he would have the support of the Greek state in this move, including the provision of land and water and exemption from duties and taxes.
