A touching and unique story of philanthropy is tied to the family of Philip and Marjory Ireland. Their connection to Anatolia College came through George Gemenetzis, a class of 1932 alumnus, who served at the U.S. Consulate in Thessaloniki.
Philip Ireland, a former Consul General, had expressed his interest in supporting the College. During a meeting with the then-President of the College, Dr. McGrew, at their home in Washington, the couple confided that their health at the time prevented them from making any commitments. Nevertheless, their love for Anatolia remained unwavering.
A few years later, the Ireland family left Anatolia College a generous bequest of $2.1 million. This act of generosity reflects not only the kindness and magnanimity of the donors but also Anatolia College’s ability to inspire and foster enduring bonds, extending its community across the United States.
The legacy of the Ireland family is another strong link in the chain of support and love that sustains Anatolia’s mission of excellence in education and social contribution.
