Donor

Through the Charles M. Hall Educational Endowment, a donation of $50,000 was made to Anatolia College in 1919 in memory of the American inventor, chemist and entrepreneur. The donation was contingent on a single condition: this bequest excluded the teaching of theology. It was therefore necessary that Anatolia have a separate Board of Trustees, which would not be tied to the Audit Committee of the American Council, although members of the latter could still participate in the new scheme. With this change, personalities from other circles could serve as Trustees of the school and thus Anatolia College gained an autonomous financial base. The support of the College through the Hall Endowment continued later with a new donation of $275,000, by far the largest the school had ever received, and an additional $25,000 for the construction of facilities, giving the College the opportunity to decisively begin the first phase of the construction of its new facilities in Greece.
