Librarian
Jean Sheetz Johnston, a librarian and musician, came to Greece with her husband Howard Johnston when he assumed the presidency of Anatolia College in 1958. Jean Johnston, aiming to elevate the College, undertook the modernization of the library into its new and larger spaces in the Kyridis Building. Besides increasing the number of books to over thirteen thousand and the number of periodical subscriptions, she formed a committee of educators to upgrade the library’s content and organization. Anatolia’s open-access library, featuring works extending beyond the prescribed secondary school curriculum and allowing students to borrow books, was unique in northern Greece at that time.
