Trustee

Mable E. Emerson, originally a secretary of ABCFM, was the first female trustee of Anatolia College. In 1922, thanks to an amendment to Anatolia’s constitution, the Board of Trustees became formally independent from ABCFM, and the school ceased to be, in the strict sense, a missionary institution. The same amendment authorized the College to extend its educational services to young women. Agreeing with these measures, the trustees also approved the appointment of a lady to their Board in Boston, with the prospect that others would follow. Mable strongly supported the Girls’ School, and in 1925, she visited Thessaloniki.
