Faculty Member
Ioannis Koliopoulos (1942 – 2022) was one of Greece’s most prominent modern historians and a distinguished professor at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Having studied in the United States and the United Kingdom, he developed an extensive and influential body of work focusing on modern Greek history, with a particular emphasis on Macedonia. His research and writings primarily explore the period from the Macedonian Struggle to World War II, shedding light on pivotal historical events in the southern Balkans.
In 1981, Koliopoulos became the first Director of the School of Business Administration and Liberal Arts (SBALA), which later evolved into the ACT (American College of Thessaloniki). Through his efforts, the school enhanced its faculty by recruiting prominent Greek academics, including Dr. Alki Nestoros, a distinguished anthropologist and Anatolia College alumna from the class of 1953, who taught anthropology at SBALA. Under his leadership, the school emerged as a dynamic hub for academic excellence, fostering the advancement of education and scholarship.
