Architect

Hugh Newell Jacobsen, a distinguished American architect, designed the Indoor Gym at Anatolia College, completed in 1975. Renowned for his modern and minimalist approach, Jacobsen applied his signature style to the gym, emphasizing simple, rectangular forms and gabled roofs.
Jacobsen’s architecture drew inspiration from the traditional vernacular of rural America, blending scale and functionality with a sense of familiarity. His works often evoked the classic agricultural structures of America, such as barns and silos, adapted to meet contemporary needs.
Jacobsen worked on projects for internationally renowned figures, including actors Meryl Streep and James Garner, solidifying his reputation as one of the most celebrated architects of his time. One of his most famous works is the residence of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis on Martha’s Vineyard, completed in 1981.
Jacobsen’s contribution to Anatolia College stands as a testament to his ability to create architectural designs that remain modern, functional, and harmoniously integrated with their surroundings.
