1886: Merzifon, Pontos. A team of brave American missionaries founded a novel educational institution in remote Anatolia in which hundreds of students would study, acquiring the educational tools that would help them secure a brighter future.
1924: Thessaloniki, Macedonia. After the shocking events of the Asia Minor Catastrophe, Anatolia College relocates in Thessaloniki. A refugee school which followed the fate of hundreds of thousands of refugees from Asia Minor, who settled on Greek soil after the population exchange.
2024: The sun of Anatolia continues to rise every morning for a hundred years in the city of Thessaloniki, symbolizing this year, a series of events to celebrate the institution’s centennial.
At this special walking tour, Tasos Papadopoulos guides us in exploring Anatolia’s campus, while at the same time, we are connected with the events, the people and the historical conditions in which Anatolia took root, grew and continues to play a leading role in the educational sector of this country for 100 years. Unknown stories, secret corners, important personalities/identities, heroism, self sacrifice, anthropocentrism and a commitment to a better education are just some of the characteristics of this journey, where the present meets the past and above all the future of Anatolia.
