Their connection to Anatolia College came through George Gemenetzis, a class of 1932 alumnus, who served at the U.S. Consulate in Thessaloniki.<br \/>Philip Ireland, a former Consul General, had expressed his interest in supporting the College. During a meeting with the then-President of the College, Dr. McGrew, at their home in Washington, the couple confided that their health at the time prevented them from making any commitments. Nevertheless, their love for Anatolia remained unwavering.<br \/>A few years later, the Ireland family left Anatolia College a generous bequest of $2.1 million.
