Born in Constantinople in 1901, Elie studied in England, later earning a degree in engineering from the University of Belgium.<br \/>\nHis boundless creativity led him to invent the faucet aerator in 1943, a patent inspired by a waterfall that has subsequently become a key part of almost every faucet.
